Please join us on Saturday, September 7, 2024 for a workshop with nationally known caller Bruce Hamilton. Lively music is once again being provided by Janet Muse and Mike Dunn. The afternoon workshop runs from 1:30-4:30pm and the evening dance from 6:30-9:30pm. The break between the sessions can be used to go out to dinner at a local restaurant. The cost is $15 per individual session or $25 for the whole day.
The Williamsburg-Richmond dance workshop series is designed to help us become better dancers by working on technique and expanding our repertoire. The Workshops are sponsored jointly by the Williamsburg Heritage Dancers and the Colonial Dance Club of Richmond with support from Henrico County Parks and Recs. These events are open to all experience levels, but will be much more pleasant if you have had a few English Dance sessions previously. Our callers typically lead both modern and historic dances in the workshop. Dress is casual modern with comfortable shoes that you can dance in.
Pre-registration will be required. Please mail in your payment with the paper registration form found on the flyer below, or reserve your spot with the online registration form.
In advance of the Saturday workshop, Mr. Hamilton has offered to share an after dinner presentation entitled “Making it Look Easy”. Meet up with your dance friends and acquaintances at a potluck dinner (i.e., bring a dish!) with doors opening at 6:00 p.m. and dinner served around 6:30 pm. Please RSVP for the potluck now and you can let us know what you are bringing later. This event is free.
Bruce Hamilton is a well-respected teacher of English and Scottish dancing with 50 years’ experience across 5 countries. He has launched classes, trained teachers, programmed camps, coached performing groups and adjudicated festivals. A retired research scientist, Bruce is always looking for new ways to understand and present ideas. He tries to weave many threads besides technique and choreography into his lessons. Music, sociability, and physiology are his current favorites. People often say they come away with things to think about and ways to grow. His weekend teachers’ class also draws high praise. Bruce lives in Menlo Park, California with his wife Jo and as many dogs and cats as her rescue operation happens to have on hand. He runs a biweekly English dance class and is a past president of the Country Dance and Song Society.
