Please join us on Saturday, September 12, 2026 for an afternoon workshop and evening dance with caller Anna Rain. Live music is being provided by Mike Dunn on fiddle and Lynne Mackey on keyboard.
Anna Rain delights in the nexus of melody, movement, and community. As a dance leader, she channels the discipline of her “day” job as a certified Iyengar Yoga instructor, striving to teach effectively and efficiently. She seeks to invite every body to move confidently, and with ease and grace. She is increasingly interested in how the skills one develops on the dance floor can translate into life wisdom. Anna also plays the recorder with her ECD bands Hot Toddy, Night Cap, and Four Raccoons in a Trenchcoat.
Pre-registration will be required. Please mail in your payment with the paper registration form found on the flyer at the bottom of this web page, or reserve your spot with the online registration form.

In advance of the Saturday workshop,
Anna's Friday night presentation is motivated by our modern lives being such that many simple movements which keep our body functioning well have been replaced by "time savers." Anna will invite all to see in what ways we can add movement "snacks" into our daily lives. Let's care for our bodies so that they may move with more ease and less pain, and will continue to carry us in our dancing for years to come!. Please RSVP for the potluck now and you can let us know what you are bringing later. This event is free.
The Friday potluck and presentation is FREE, doors open at 6 pm with supper around 6:30 pm. On Friday we meet on the north side of Richmond at the Belmont Recreation Center, 1600 Hilliard Road, Richmond, VA 23228.
The Saturday afternoon workshop runs from 1:30-4:30pm and the evening dance from 6:30-9:30pm. The cost is $15 per individual session or $25 for the whole day. The two hour break between the sessions can be used to go out to dinner at a local restaurant. Both Saturday sessions are in the far west end of Richmond at the Deep Run Recreation Center, 9900 Ridgefield Parkway, Henrico, VA 23233.
The Williamsburg-Richmond dance workshop series is designed to help us become better dancers by working on technique and expanding our repertoire. The Workshops are sponsored jointly by the Williamsburg Heritage Dancers and the Colonial Dance Club of Richmond with support from Henrico County Parks and Recs. These events are open to all experience levels, but will be much more pleasant if you have had a few English Dance sessions previously. Our callers typically lead both modern and historic dances in the workshop. Dress is casual modern with comfortable shoes that you can dance in.
Our recent workshops have been led by Gene Murrow in 2025, Bruce Hamilton in 2024, David Millstone in 2023, Joanna Reiner Wilkinson in 2022, Robin Hayden in 2019, and Scott Higgs in 2018.
